Meath Enterprise 2018 Highlights

2018 was a busy year for Meath Enterprise- as part of our remit to drive local, regional and national enterprise development through collaborations, clustering and creative thinking we launched new partnerships, opened new enterprise spaces and received significant funding along with much more.

In April 2018 we officially opened the Kells Tech Hub in our Kells Enterprise & Technology Centre which offers high quality, modern, fully serviced and affordable accommodation to start-ups and SMEs such as private offices, co-working space and meeting rooms to help them to start, scale and go global. There is also a mini conference and expo centre and several flexible training spaces to support entrepreneurship education and the delivery of world class enterprise training and innovation programmes that can help Irish Startups and SMEs to Scale and go Global.

For more information on Kells Tech Hub please visit www.kellstech.com.

In July we announced the news that Meath County Council and Meath Enterprise have confirmed their intention to develop a new enterprise hub in Dunshaughlin. This follows months of discussion and planning that will now see parts of the existing County Council building being re-developed to create a vibrant enterprise space that will support and promote a culture of entrepreneurship in Dunshaughlin. This will be launched in early 2019 so keep an eye on our website and social media for details!

In September we announced a very exciting new partnership with Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO) – a global network exclusively for male and female entrepreneurs that supports learning and personal growth through peer-to-peer learning, once-in-a-lifetime experiences and connection to experts in 2018. We have partnered with them to deliver the EO Accelerator Programme. Accelerator is the catalyst that enables first stage entrepreneurs to catapult their businesses to the next level. It is a two-year learning programme for entrepreneurs with a turnover of €250,000 who want to grow their current business to exceed the €1 million mark. The programme will cater for entrepreneurs from all types of businesses across Ireland. Along with structured educational content focused on the core areas of business, the Accelerator programme will afford a unique experience of learning to support the further development of entrepreneurial leaders in Ireland’s business community. The inaugural training day took place in the Kells Tech Hub in October with another one scheduled for January and we welcomed entrepreneurs from across the country as well as guest speaker Ray Coyle who shared with us some of his vast and varied experiences as an entrepreneur.

Meath Enterprise Week #MEW2018 was once again a jam-packed week full of fantastic events to bring entrepreneurs, businesses and support agencies together. Now in its fifth year, #MEW2018 is a national events partner with Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018 (#GEW2018) which, through its Global Entrepreneurship Network, coordinates enterprise events in over 160 countries during that same week. Throughout the week we held events with LMETB/VTOS, County Meath Chambers, Boyne Valley Producers Network, Royal BNI, Meath Local Enterprise Office as well as our MEW Student Enterprise Challenge and our #MEW2018 Business Conference & Expo.

Our MEW Student Enterprise Challenge took place in the Kells Tech Hub and saw over 50 students from 5 schools across Meath compete for a share of the €3000 prize money. A huge variety of innovative products and services were presented to the judges making deliberations very tricky! We are already working on our 2019 MEW Student Challenge and plan to make it bigger and better than ever so please tell any secondary school students you may know in Meath to look it up! Our #MEW2018 Business Conference & Expo was once more a fantastic day, with several panel discussions featuring local entrepreneurs, representatives from support agencies and government as well as a fantastic expo of local businesses. This is the highlight of Meath Enterprise Week and aims to give entrepreneurs, local businesses, support agencies and government a chance to convene and discuss experience, issues and future plans. We were delighted to welcome Ministers Helen McEntee and Damien English as well as all our speakers and all who supported the event. In the last quarter of 2018 we also began renovations on our new Boyne Valley Food Lab and Meath Digital Lab. The Boyne Valley Food Lab will provide a fully fitted and equipped kitchen for food product development, shelf life testing and sensory evaluation. This will be completed in Spring 2019.

The Meath Digital Lab construction is also well under way and it will ready in Spring 2019. This will provide studio space and professional photography and cinematography equipment and will be the first of its kind in county Meath. We are very excited and hugely looking forward to launching both these facilities in the new year, please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.

One of the highlights of the year occurred in December with the announcement by Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys TD of the results of the second round of the €60million Regional Enterprise Development Fund (REDF), an open national competitive call to support regional projects. Boyne Valley Food Innovation District received €1.58 million to develop the Boyne Valley Food Hub in the Meath Enterprise Centre Navan. The Boyne Valley Food Innovation District has the potential to become a leading food cluster that helps Irish indigenous food companies to build capacity and value so that they can scale into global markets. This will ensure an extremely busy and exciting 2019 as we begin work on this project.

All in all 2018 has been an extremely busy and productive year for Meath Enterprise! We are all very excited for what 2019 will bring here in Meath Enterprise and we look forward to delivering more facilities and services to help enterprise development in Meath and further afield. Please find us on Twitter and Facebook at @MeathEnterprise and make sure to keep an eye on our website which gets updated daily for our latest events and news.

Wishing all our clients, partners, suppliers and friends a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
